You could be waiting for your daughter to finish her dance class or your son to finish his football practice – whatever you’re waiting for, a portable DVD player will help the time pass quickly and enjoyably.
Instead of watching the clock, you could be watching your favorite movie or the latest episode of your favorite soap that you recorded the other night.
Or you may have all the stuff you like to watch and listen to downloaded onto a USB drive. Well, providing you choose a portable DVD player with a USB socket, you just plug it in and away you go.
The range of portable DVD players is huge, so it’s easy to become overwhelmed whilst you’re trying to decide which one is going to be best for you.
It’s a good idea to have an idea of what you’re going to want the DVD player for and who’s going to be using it most of the time. For example, if you’re buying for your 3 year old toddler, something basic, sturdy and hard-wearing without too many buttons is going to be the best choice.
However, if your teenage son or daughter are going to be using the unit, you may want to look at something a little more hi-tech. For example, a portable DVD player with a docking station into which they can put their i-pod or MP3 player, either to charge it, to watch on the larger DVD screen or to listen to their downloaded music.
Portable DVD Player | One Screen or Two?
Another consideration is how many people are going to be watching the DVD player. If more than one person is going to be watching,
it may be more practical to go for a dual portable DVD player, which has two screens and will allow two, or more, people to comfortably watch a DVD at the same time.
Or how about a portable DVD player with a swivel screen? They’re an alternative way to ensure that more than one person can easily see the screen at any one time.
You may also want to think about a kit which will enable you to mount the DVD player into a fixing in the back of the car.
The majority of these fit onto the back of the front seat headrests, allowing the portable DVD player to be easily fitted into them. These are a very good idea, particularly if you’re traveling with young children, as they can just sit back and watch their favorite DVDs without you having to worry about who’s going to hold the DVD player.
Think about what type of travel you’ll be needing your portable DVD player for. For example, if you’re going to be using it mainly during travel on planes or trains, chances are you’re going to be carrying it in your hand luggage and for that reason, a unit that’s as lightweight as possible will most likely suit you best.
Another important factor to consider is the length of play that a fully charged battery will give you, whether the unit is supplied with a car charger and how long it will take to recharge the battery.
Of course, no-one expects batteries to keep going indefinitely, but at the same time, you don’t really want to be having to recharge them every hour or so if you’re going on a long trip. For this reason, it’s important to check out how long a battery will last before you make your final choice.
Finally, think about your budget. There’s a portable DVD player to suit everyone and every budget and there’s some great value for money to be found on the market.
Some are extremely reasonably priced but quite basic, others are in the mid-price range and offer a little more for your money, whilst the remainder are at the top end of the pricing scale, but generally offer more features.
