You could be waiting for your daughter to finish her dance class or your son to finish his football practice – whatever you’re waiting for, a portable DVD player will help the time pass quickly and enjoyably.

Instead of watching the clock, you could be watching your favorite movie or the latest episode of your favorite soap that you recorded the other night.

Or you may have all the stuff you like to watch and listen to downloaded onto a USB drive.  Well, providing you choose a portable DVD player with a USB socket, you just plug it in and away you go. portable dvd player

The range of portable DVD players is huge, so it’s easy to become overwhelmed whilst you’re trying to decide which one is going to be best for you.

It’s a good idea to have an idea of what you’re going to want the DVD player for and who’s going to be using it most of the time.  For example, if you’re buying for your 3 year old toddler, something basic, sturdy and hard-wearing without too many buttons is going to be the best choice.

Portable DVD Player | One Screen or Two?

Another consideration is how many people are going to be watching the DVD player.  If more than one person is going to be watching, portable dvd playerit may be more practical to go for a dual portable DVD player, which has two screens and will allow two, or more, people to comfortably watch a DVD at the same time.

You may also want to think about a kit which will enable you to mount the DVD player into a fixing in the back of the car.

The majority of these fit onto the back of the front seat headrests, allowing the portable DVD player to be easily fitted into them.  These are a very good idea, particularly if you’re traveling with young children, as they can just sit back and watch their favorite DVDs without you having to worry about who’s going to hold the DVD player.portable dvd player

Think about what type of travel you’ll be needing your portable DVD player for.  For example, if you’re going to be using it mainly during travel on planes or trains, chances are you’re going to be carrying it in your hand luggage and for that reason, a unit that’s as lightweight as possible will most likely suit you best.

Another important factor to consider is the length of play that a fully charged battery will give you, whether the unit is supplied with a car charger and how long it will take to recharge the battery.

Of course, no-one expects batteries to keep going indefinitely, but at the same time, you don’t really want to be having to recharge them every hour or so if you’re going on a long trip.  For this reason, it’s important to check out how long a battery will last before you make your final choice.

Finally, think about your budget.  There’s a portable DVD player to suit everyone and every budget and there’s some great value for money to be found on the market.

Some are extremely reasonably priced but quite basic, others are in the mid-price range and offer a little more for your money, whilst the remainder are at the top end of the pricing scale, but generally offer more features.

With the advent of ipod’s, laptops and ipad’s, you’d be forgiven for thinking that a travel dvd player is a little old-hat.

However, contrary to that belief, they’re still pretty popular and selling very well!

There are many reasons for choosing a travel DVD player over a more hi-tech piece of equipment.

For instance, many people prefer a portable DVD player because it’s so convenient to take along on a long trip with young children.

Parents are generally happier for the kids to be in the back seat watching their favorite cartoons on a compact DVD player, rather than on a more expensive, more high-tech machine.  They’re simple for little ones to operate and in addition to that, when they start to feel drowsy, they can be sung to sleep by changing the DVD for a CD of their favorite lullabies!

I heard a great story (I don’t know if it’s true, but it’s so great that I’d like to think it is!) about a Mom who, when she picked up her son from Kindergarten, she’d give him his portable DVD player with a Dora the Explorer DVD and he’d sit and listen to it with the headphones.  When they got home, he was so engrossed that she’d let him carry on watching.  (It is educational, after all!)

Anyway, this became the routine for a few weeks until one day, the little boy, very confidently and completely out of the blue, started speaking in Spanish!  His Mom almost crashed the car in surprise – her son had learned some pretty decent Spanish whilst he’d been sitting quietly watching his Dora the Explorer DVDs over the recent weeks.

Travel DVD Player | Hi-Tech Isn’t Always Better!

Another portable DVD player success story comes from an elderly neighbor of mine who lived alone and had struggled for months to use a laptop that her son had given her to watch DVD’s and listen to CD’s on.  Despite going over the set-up procedure and the operating instructions with her, she simply found it too confusing to understand and the laptop was eventually put back in its case, which is where it stayed for the best part of a year.

When he found out, her son bought a portable dvd player for his Mom instead.  Suffice to say that she uses that all the time!  It’s easy for her to understand how to operate and she takes it pretty much everywhere with her.  If she’s at home, her DVD player is close at hand and if she goes on a trip, it’s her traveling companion!

There are some obvious plus points of having a travel dvd player.  It goes without saying that you can take it with you wherever you go, whether it be to the beach, the park, on a train, plane or car journey or to appointments when you may have to wait for a long time to be seen, for example, at the doctor, hospital or dentist.

Also, they’re not too expensive, so if you have more than one child, it may be an option to get a travel dvd player for each of them if you have a long trip planned.

Ease of use is another big advantage.  As I’ve already mentioned, pretty much anyone from young kids to senior citizens can work a portable dvd player without any problem.  In fact, I know plenty of people of all ages, who would feel much more comfortable using a portable DVD player to view films and listen to music – not everyone wants to go ultra hi-tech.

Batteries are rechargeable and for the most part, you’ll get hours of use on a fully charged battery.  Incidentally, I should tell you that it’s about the battery life that I have my only gripe.  On certain models, it’s isn’t long at all, but if you’re seriously in the market for one, why not take a look at a wide range of travel dvd players available and then read some genuine reviews from other people who have bought them right here.

Aside from the convenience factor of a travel DVD player, there really are some amazing deals to be had too.
